Hope you have an old computer you're trying to load this on.

This is probably a great product if they'd send the software in something compatible with today's computers. I had to load it in compatibility mode given its outdated version. Then once finished the .exe file from their website would not open. After a few hours of trying to load this thing I finally gave up and returned it.

Grade 2-4-This excellent introduction to Pearl Harbor and World War II opens with Secretary of State Cordell Hull angrily greeting Japanese representatives on December 7, 1941, even before news of the attack has reached him. What he does know is that Japan has been deceiving the U.S. Krensky goes on to describe the history of Japan's economic and political expansion in Asia, the European war, President Roosevelt's willingness to assist the Allies, and how continuing recovery from the Depression limited the U.S.'s full participation in the war prior to Pearl Harbor. He explains the purpose of the attack and Japan's belief that the U.S. would be unable to retaliate. The attack itself is described accurately, with good detail, showing how overwhelming the destruction was and how this encouraged and almost created patriotism in the United States. The pen-and-ink and pastel-wash illustrations on every spread are realistic and detailed; the scenes of destruction leave no doubt about the devastation, but are not disturbingly graphic. This book, with its easy chapters and complex sentences, will appeal to newly independent readers.

Third Grade Class

I am buying multiple copies of this book to use with my third grade classroom this year. I always have a group (mostly boys - but the hardest to motivate to read) who love anything that has to do with war and fighting. Well, with the release of the movie this summer, I am sure this book will be a hit. I plan on using it in small group instruction. It is a Level 3 book in the Ready-To-Read Series. It will spark a lot of interest in looking up topics in the encyclopedia or on the computer.

About the Author
Appleford was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit. Shespent the summers of her youth at a family cottage on the shore of Lake Michigan.

When Kathy-jo Wargin was a young girl, each night after dinner, her mother let her choose between washing the dishes or writing a poem. Before long, she decided that if she grew up to be a writer, she wouldn't have to do any dishes. She has since learned that even though she has published more than twenty award-winning books for children, she still has to wash the dishes. Kathy-jo lives in Minnesota with her husband and her son. Amazing illustrations...great poetry...interesting facts. You'll find all three in this alphabet book about Michigan. Great to read aloud and great to read alone (again and again)....I highly recommend this book (and future books in the series) to all elementary school teachers. We are pleased to present the sixth edition of Applied Animal Reproduction. Some significant changes will be apparent in this edition, as compared with earlier editions. Dr. Scott T. Willard is now a part of the author team. Dr. Willard is an emerging reproductive physiologist with an interest in and a philosophy for teaching undergraduate students that is compatable with that of the other two authors of this text. There is some reorganization of chapters in this edition and three new chapters have been included. A new chapter, "Mating Behavior," has combined elements from Chapter 5, "The Estrous Cycle," and old Chapter 11, "Male Mating Behavior." This is the new Chapter 7 and is located in front of the chapter entitled "Ovigenesis and Fertilization." Chapter 18 from earlier editions is now two chapters, Chapter 18, "Synchronization of Estrus and Superovulation with Embryo Transfer," and Chapter 19, "Reproductive Biotechnology." The information in these chapters has been updated and expanded considerably. Several tables and figures have been added to the text, and color plates that are representative of material covered in the book are grouped at two locations.

There has been substantial revision of several other chapters. Two new sections, "Hormone-like Factors and Other Hormonal Mediators" and "Methods of Hormone Detection and Measurement," are found in Chapter 4, "Neuroendocrine and Endocrine Regulators of Reproduction:" A section on immunological considerations has been added to Chapter 9, "Gestation," and a section on reproductive toxicology has been added to Chapter 25, "Physiological, Toxicological, and Psychological Causes of Reproductive Failure." Further, Chapter 11, "Lactation," has been expanded to include new information on the biosynthesis of milk. Updated information can be found throughout the text.

Even though there is considerable revision in this edition, the writing style has not changed. Also, the reorganization has been minor and should not affect the lecture format of instructors who have been using this text...This text is intended to give the undergraduate student majoring in animal or dairy science a complete overview of the reproductive processes. It is assumed that these students have a limited background in physiology. Therefore, a major effort has been made to maintain clarity. It is hoped that this style of writing will also encourage use of this text in 2-year agricultural curricula and in short courses where participants have a more limited educational background. Sixty combined years of experience in teaching a course in physiology of reproduction-to students with a wide divergence of backgrounds have influenced the level of writing and the organization of the book. Comments and suggestions from students were given careful consideration during the preparation of the text.

Parts 1 and 2 are designed to help students develop both the terminology needed to discuss problems associated with physiology of reproduction and an understanding of the physiological processes controlling reproduction. These parts have been updated to provide students with recent information. Chapter 4 will be difficult because the concept of endocrine regulation will be new to most undergraduate students. When this information is reinforced in later chapters on reproductive processes in the female and the male, these concepts will seem less troublesome. Early introduction permits development of a more profound understanding of the neuroendocrine and endocrine regulation of reproduction.

Parts 3, 4, and 5 emphasize the application of basic concepts to the management of reproduction in livestock. This text is unique in the emphasis that is given to the applied aspects of reproduction. Five chapters are devoted to artificial insemination. These include collection, evaluation, storage, and utilization of semen through artificial insemination. Five chapters are written on reproductive management with specific chapters on environmental management, nutritional management, pregnancy diagnosis, and diseases affecting reproduction. The goal of these chapters goes beyond description of simple techniques for good reproductive management. They are designed to help students understand the rationale and principles used in developing guidelines for good reproductive management.

Several steps have been taken to make this text more readable. Important terms are italicized and defined when first introduced. Only the most prevalent theories are presented, and these have been simplified rather than presented in lengthy discussions on the pros and cons of these concepts. A consensus is presented where disagreement exists in the literature. Also, reference citations are not listed in the text. A carefully selected reading list has been included at the end of each chapter. It is intended to provide the student with references to classical as well as more recent literature pertaining to reproduction. These lists of suggested reading are not intended as a complete and up-to-date bibliography used in the development of each chapter. The references have been limited to encourage additional reading, rather than overwhelming students with the vast number of publications available on each topic. The writing style used in this book may be troublesome to instructors who are accustomed to delving into scientific literature. Referenced texts are currently available, while few have been written specifically for undergraduates. The selected readings after each chapter include both reviews and publications of original research, which will be useful for documentation.

There are a very few books which I think carry so much of information which contains the POWER to ALTER the LIFE for good.

No joke.

This book is straight forward.

Impressive guide to transforming your body the best way possible

I'm impressed - the content of this book goes far beyond any other exercise regimen and fitness training book that I've encountered yet. This is one of those books that's easy to pass by if one looks at the cover - yes, another training guide with big claims to be the best yet - but if you go in and even read through the first page, the reader is treated to something different. Kassel goes into the science of why some things work and why others don't, in terms of diet, nutrition, and exercise routines. He also adds a lot of personal stories, which adds depth to a lot of the philosophies given in this book. And yes, you are, in the end of the book, given a guide on how to transform your body in just 100 days. Though this book definitely targets the guys, I feel I can implement many of the ideas for myself. Now, to convince the boyfriend to try this out with me...

Become your own superhero by getting fitter, faster and stronger! This book allows you to become a real-life superman (or superwoman!). Eating real wholesome food, following a back to basics training methodology and getting you as strong as could possibly be. Definitely a guide rather than just a book, it is something you will want to put into practice.

It is refreshing and an interesting read, with good humour. But serious enough to enable you to get great results - it sits well with another book I often refer to Paleo Fitness - A Primal Training and Nutrition Program to Get Lean, Strong and Healthy. I am looking forward to getting the other volumes in this series. Markus means business!!!

A Waste of Money

This book was terrible - completely amateurish. You could find the same (and better) information freely available on the internet. In the chapter on programming he has a few trivial questions and then states that he doesn't know anything about programming so there will be no explanations for these problems. I'm paying for this? The book is also sprinkled with annoying annecdotes that have little to with the topic of the book. Stay away!

Do NOT interview for any analytic job before reading this!

This book is specifically targeted at those applying for highly-quantitative jobs on Wall Street, and any job seeker in that area would be nuts not to take advantage of the inside information Professor Crack reveals.
The reason I am writing this review, though, is that I believe the sample interview questions and advice are invaluable to anyone interviewing for any job that involves a lot of analysis.
I am not in the finance field, but rather in technology consulting. Having practiced with Heard on the Street, I found the "tough" interview questions I encountered to be downright easy, and I breezed through several rounds of interviews, landing the job I wanted at a major computer company best known by its three-letter acronym.
If you're headed to Wall Street, reading this book is a no-brainer. If you're headed anywhere else that involves numbers, logic or analysis of a non-financial nature, you'll still be glad you read it.

Really, really useful if you're in the field

I'm a financial engineering student at an Ivy League institution. Just got the book from Amazon. Awesome book, so far the best help in preparing for technical aspect of the ib (quantitative positions) interviews that I have encountered. I thought it would be sort of a black and white xerox copy - instead it turned out to be really well published. The book is rather weighty (>300p), contains a plethora of questions with detailed explanations, 0 filler. The guy is very good about cultivating the attitude of, "It's the thinking process and not the number in the answer." Overall, I would definitely recommed this. Given the amount of general info you can garner off free advice sites - vault/wetfeet, this may as well be the number one book on your preparation list.
