Great book to learn and revise your English pronunciation!

This is a great book. Very easy to understand for people without previous knowledge of phonetics. For me, that studied English as a Second Language, made me remember my classes; it also made me realize that I still have things to learn.
It is written in a very witty, refreshing way; not at all like a rigid university textbook. This feature makes it appealing for younger people, in my opinion.

this book is very good my English pronunciation has changed less in two weeks after i received the book with the cd, i listen to the cd everyday when i am talking with my friends at work i talked with confidence now, if you want to speak better English this is the best book for you.

Maria Antonieta Poblete was the daughter of a “Hacendado”, the owner of a sugar plantation in the Tenancingo Valley of Mexico. In the 18th Century and earlier all fertile land in the valleys of the Federal District was owned by hereditary families, which had received it from the Crown of Spain after the Conquest. In the first decade of the 20th Century Maria Antonieta was in school in Toluca, the city just north of her home in Malinalco. As the privileged daughter of a “Hacendado” she would have continued her fine education in the Catholic Girl’s School had the Mexican Revolution and tenacious, Mormon missionaries not intervened and changed what should have been her life.

The revolution began for land reform, as the Mexican government had confiscated land from the people and given it to the plantation owners to plant more sugar cane. Land is also why the Mormons were in Mexico. They had purchased land from the government in order to practice polygamy, which was against the law in the United States. Mormon missionaries were sent by the church hierarchy in Salt Lake City to convert Mexican citizens and exhort them to come to the states of Chihuahua and Sonora where the Mormon Church had established colonies.

Maria’s story is taken from journals that she kept most of her life and from the memories of her childhood. The story follows the history of the three world events that appear in conjunction during the first decades of the 20th Century. There seems to be a connecting thread that follows Maria Antionieta throughout her life and it is posited that this may be the connecting principle of the Universe. This story of Maria’s shows the connection of World War I, the Mexican Revolution and the Mormon’s in Mexico.

An outstanding memoir....a must read for anyone looking for the intersection of love, war and revolution. Wonderfully told tale of lost love, the Mexican revolution and WWI and WWII. This is Nicholas Sparks one better....Great read!

Another worthless book

Another worthless book. There is nothing in this book that anyone with a bit of common sense shouldn't already know. In her book Creating a Personal Protocol, this author gave us a collection of blank, lined pages masquerading as a book and this is just more of the same. If you enjoy spending almost $20 for a blank tablet then go for it. Otherwise don't waste your time or money. This author is doing a huge disservice to the BDSM community by not providing any meaningful instruction while charging an excessive price. A total rip-off.

I was so disappointed in 'creating a personal protocol' that I bought this one, noticing too late its by the same author. Another disappointment: checklists you will find on any website, half the book is filled with a yearly calendar (no really) and nothing usefull.

Badly formatted, useless and a utter waste of money.

The "activities" presented in this book are nothing more than what any reasonably sane person does naturally in their daily life. Mr. Reilly is really scraping the bottom of the barrel to suggest personal budgeting as an activity in a book apparently aimed at a fetish demographic. The same goes for the authors views on time management (over a third of this kindle book is given over to an unreadable and inscrutable "year planner" that you are invited to fill out - on a kindle). Ditto for the section on how to provide references (thanks- I have successfully applied for a job/lease/bank loan etc. before, Shannon!) and also the section on notating your likes, dislikes and boundaries. The formatting on this ebook is particularly atrocious.

Nothing but absolutle drivel, presented in such a manner that I was starkly reminded of being back at primary school.

I don't know where the editorial review came from, but whoever wrote it should be punished by being made to actually read the book.

A GREAT tool to start you on your way to better speech!

Although I have my criticisms about the book, it's a solid 5 in my experience.

The book was required reading for my Diction course in college, so I came to know the book under a dubious first impression. The quirky nature of my course lent a bit of frustration towards the book that was unwarranted.

Once we started to dive into the contents of the book, did I begin to understand why my professor chose this text.

PROS:
- Everything is laid out simply.
- Easy to understand and use.
- Effectively categorized phonetically.
- Exercises that are explained and thorough for recovering from various speech issues
- Existentialism ← Sorry, couldn't help myself, needed to add another E word for giggles.
- Spells out dialectical issues concerning region and linguistic.

CONS
- There appear to be some phonetic sounds that aren't included, notably the Ʋ sound (something of a combination of W and V), which I needed for a research project.
- Despite being easy to understand and use, there were times when I felt lost trying to find certain phonetic areas, but that could just be the way the author decided to organize, which may just be in contrast to my own desires.
- Could use some updated (and cleaner appearing) graphical representations of the anatomy presented therein.

Ever since I took this class, and was required to read this book, I've been trying to convince other people how valuable the entire experience has been. As a native English speaker with minor speech issues, I found the entire text to be a great way to improve my speech, and I can only imagine how this might help something with larger issues.

I rented the book for class, but I intend to buy it for my own personal use.

Lots of usable exercises to improve voice

Really great textbook, definitely worth the cost. Rented this for a great prize via Amazon! I love all of the exercises the book offers to improve voice. It's a required text for one of my classes and definitely very relative to my class. (Voice & Diction)
