Good book on valuing stocks

The book is one of a series by Morningstar. This particular describes the various accounting sheets (balance, income, etc.) used. It has two quite worthwhile chapters on economic moats and management quality. This is a good reference for investors trying to determine quality and value in a company.
Some of the accounting sheets printed lightly, and with the small print, are hard to read. The only other recommendation would be to have an index.

Learn how to pick stocks like a pro

This book takes readers to the next level of stock market investing after the previous book, How to Get Started in Stocks. Morningstar's philosophy to stock investing is based on Warren Buffett's teachings - buy great companies that earn high returns on capital, are protected by moats or competitive advantages, and are bought at good prices. This book teaches investors how to find economic moats, analyze financial statements, and value companies to determine if they should be purchased.

This book also has a quiz and worksheet at the end of each chapter. Since the book is written by Morningstar, it references the company throughout the book. Morningstar offers subscription services to individual investors who can get access to analyst reports and opinions of value on individuals companies. In addition to reading this book, I recommend their subscription.

Great book, gave as X-Mas present.

Overall a great book. Was a little more elementary than I thought so I gave it as a Christmas present. For someone without extensive experience and knowledge IRT stock picking, this is the BEST place to start. Morningstar is always great.

Fun, easy to read, and alot of good advice!

I found this book to be an easy to read and enjoyable collection of thoughts about relationships. While reading it I found myself shaking my head yes and smiling to myself. It is a book that I wish I had at a younger age when I first started relationships but feel is still relevant in my 50's, as I am single and still looking. The book explores not only love relationships but, I felt, can be applied to all kinds of relationships, family, friends, and others. I am so glad I decided to buy this book and I know I will look at it often to reference issues I continue to deal with on a regular basis. Certainly made me feel that I am not the only one experiencing these thoughts and issues.

ProQuest and Bernan made a splash in 2012 when they took over the government's long-running publication of Statistical Abstract. If you bought the title back then are thinking that edition will suffice for a while longer, you might want to reconsider. This year's edition includes a number of new tables on topics that have been running through the media lately and which your patrons might be seeking statistics - for example, rape and sexual assault among college-age women; terrorism deaths, injuries, and kidnappings of private U.S. citizens by country; and veterans' income, education, and poverty and disability status compared to nonveterans. The majority of the data is annual...so that skipping a year means missing out on new and revised data for about 1,200 of the 1,400 tables in the book. (Library Journal)

Preface

The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the best-known statistical reference publication in the country. As a comprehensive collection of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States, it is a snapshot of America and its people. In the spring of 2011, the Census Bureau announced that the edition published that year would be the last one produced at government expense. Beginning in 2012, ProQuest took on responsibility for updating and releasing this publication, the most used statistical reference tool in U.S. libraries.

The editors at ProQuest have endeavored to continue the tradition established by the Census Bureau Statistical Compendia Branch. Like its predecessors, the ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States is designed to serve as a convenient volume for statistical reference and as a guide to other statistical publications and sources. The latter function is served by the introductory text to each section, the source note appearing below each table, and Appendix I, which is comprised of the Guide to Sources of Statistics, the Guide to State Statistical Abstracts, and the Guide to Foreign Statistical Abstracts.

This volume includes a selection of data from many statistical sources, both government and private. Publications cited as sources usually contain additional statistical detail and more comprehensive discussions of definitions and concepts. Data not available in publications issued by the contributing
agency, but obtained from the Internet or unpublished records are identified in the source notes. More information on the subjects covered in the tables may generally be obtained from the source.

Except as indicated, figures are for the United States as presently constituted. Although emphasis in the ProQuest Statistical Abstract is primarily given to national data, many tables present data for regions and individual states and a smaller number for metropolitan areas and cities. "Appendix II, Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas: Concepts, Components, and Population," presents explanatory text, a complete current listing, and population data for metropolitan and micropolitan areas defined as of February 2013. Statistics for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and for Island Areas of the United States are included in many state tables and are supplemented by information in Section 29.

Statistics in this edition are generally for the most recent year or period available, as of early September
2015. Each year over 1,400 tables are reviewed and

evaluated, new tables of current interest are added, continuing series are updated, and less timely data are condensed or eliminated. Text notes and appendices are revised as appropriate.

Changes in this edition—This year ProQuest introduces 39 new tables, presenting new material on a variety of topics, including charter schools; women's earnings as a percent of men's earnings by
occupation; terrorism related deaths, injuries, and kidnappings of private U.S. citizens; child immunization by State; and health care spending by medical condition. For a complete list of new tables, see "New Tables," p. xi.

Additionally, within the Health and Nutrition section, tables presenting data on health measures have been arranged into two separate subsections - health measures and health measures for children.

Online edition—ProQuest Statistical Abstract is also available in an online edition. This dynamic edition features table-specific capabilities for narrowing results by source, data date, subject, and type of data breakdown. Importantly, the online edition is updated with new statistical content on a monthly basis, enabling users to regularly access new and revised data. The online product functions as a repository for additional back year's data that cannot fit into the print publication. Users will find spreadsheets that correspond to each table in the book. In many cases, these spreadsheets present expanded coverage of the data shown in print. It is available as a stand-alone product or a fully integrated component of ProQuest Statistical Insight.

Limitations of the data—The contents of this volume were taken from many sources. All data from censuses, surveys, and administrative records are subject to error arising from a number of factors including the following: sampling variability (for statistics based on samples), reporting errors in the data for individual units, incomplete coverage, nonresponse, and imputation and processing errors (see also Appendix III). ProQuest cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy or limitations of the data presented here. However, selection of the material and its proper presentation is the responsibility of ProQuest.

Riveting

I found this book in the library years ago. I have always been interested in accounts of supposedly 'true' hauntings and this book turned out be my my absolute favourite to date. I have since read it 3 times.
It really is compelling. I'm sure there are many people who feel they are true afficionados of hauntings so I challenge you to read it and place your opinion on it here.
This is the only book I have read that actually bothered me and I couldn't put it down.

Whether Ray Garton has embellished on the happenings I don't know. I know a film was made, changing the name of the Snedekers but it was apparent it was the same family. The film is totally wishy washy compared to the book though. A lot is left out and in my opinion you don't get the same feeling that you get from the book. I loved it. It still scares me to this day and I have been searching ever since for more stories like this, which is shameful of me because it means someone else will have been through what the Snedekers went through. I have to say it grabs you from the start. Its such compelling reading. I recommend it. I don't usually scare easily when reading, but this one did it.

Frightening piece of literature - true or not

I found a copy of this book a couple of years ago after watching the documentary version of it, "A Haunting In Connecticut" on the Discovery Channel. The TV show was one of the scariest I'd seen, and the book tracks the film pretty closely.

The premise of the book is that the Snedeker family needs to move closer to where the oldest son, Stephen, is being treated for cancer. The family thinks they have found the answer to their prayers when they find a large home that has just been remodeled that is being leased for a very reasonable price. However, they soon learn the reason for the bargain. The house is a former funeral home. However, with the expense of the son's cancer treatment weighing heavily on the family budget, the Snedekers are unable to afford breaking their lease and moving to yet another house. According to the book, demons invade their domicile - or they invade the demon's domicile, depending on how you look at it - until the supernatural detectives, the Warrens, are called in and with the help of an exorcism, restore peace to the household.

Just as much as fright, though, I felt a great deal of anger at the Snedekers as parents. For one thing, Mr. Snedeker seems to believe that the size of his electricity bill is more important than the mental health of a child recovering from cancer since he removes all of the light bulbs from the basement bedroom so that Stephen can no longer sleep with the lights on. Then he forces the boy to continue sleeping in this bedroom in spite of his tales of horror of being tormented by apparitions coming from the former embalming room adjacent to his basement bedroom. He does this in spite of the fact that he and his wife have both personally been the victims of attacks and witnesses of various manifestations of the house's spirits. Afterwards, in despair, the boy just gives in to the demons' collective will, manifesting in more and more bizarre behavior until he finally attacks a visiting cousin. How Mrs. Snedeker could have invited this young niece into her home in the first place just because she wanted the companionship and help around the house, having witnessed firsthand the mayhem that the house's demons can cause, as well as her son's deteriorating mental state, is a wonder to me.

I have read an interview with the author, and he paints both the Warrens and the Snedekers in a very unflattering light in that interview. He basically says that he does not really believe the Snedekers' stories, since even the Warrens themselves told the author that they think that all of their clients are crazy including the Snedekers. Plus, apparently there was considerable drug and alcohol abuse going on in the Snedeker household and the family members would never tell the same story twice. The author only went through with writing the book because he was already legally obligated to do so. However, even if the account is total fiction, it is well told and frightening fiction and I highly recommend it if you can find a copy. If not, the next time the documentary comes on TV, you should watch it. Also, there have been rumors this story is going to be made into a feature film to be released some time in 2006, but I haven't been able to find any other details on this alleged movie.

Truly riveting story of a house possessed by demons....

In this book, derived from the experiences of Ed and Lorraine Warren (who are well respected, self-proclaimed Demonologists), with regard to the Snedeker family, the reader is brought into the realm of the unknown and seemingly impossible, world of demonic possession. Through this compelling saga, one is tranported into the horrific lore of the Snedeker's reality. A family of seven persecuted maliciously by a group of apparitions that catapult the family into an incubus of acopocolyptic proportions. The demons manage to invade the very core of the Snedeker's family, trying desperately to destroy their familial bonds. The devilements of these omnipotent, devilish demons increases more and more as they gain control over the Snedeker family. Not one member of the family is left untouched by these oppressive entities. This book leaves the reader in awe of the potential danger of the unknown realm of spiritualism and demonic possession. Whether you "believe" or not, it is a truly compelling story worth putting some effort into reading.

Interesting read

By clearing our stuck energies, we are more able to find peace and happiness, allowing the energy patterns within to flow more clearly. As within, so without. Clearing the inside first allows things on the outside also clear. Becoming aware of the inner glitches and clearing those makes a huge difference. So many times, we try to fix the outer stuff first, but those things are just symptoms of the real inner challenge and will reoccur if the inner balance is not achieved first. You can paint over the ugly old color of a wall, but the old color is just covered and remains underneath.

Great book for anybody interested in chakras

Great book for anybody interested in chakras. It not only explains what chakras are, but it gives practical examples of when chakras are not working properly plus excercises to improve the working of the chakras. Very complete, very clear, very informative. I always have this book on my nightstand and every once in a while I read specific parts of it, depending on what I feel me or somebody in my environment needs.

Dr Gowri Motha has worked as an obstetrician in London since 1981. She works alongside Dr Yehudi Gordon at his Viveka clinic and has delivered many celebrities' babies, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney, Kate Moss and Elle McPherson at the birthing unit at the prestigious St John and Elizabeth's Hospital, London. Karen Swan MacLeod is a journalist who, as well as working as Senior Commissioning Editor at You Magazine, has contributed to titles including Sunday Times, the FT, Tatler and Vogue. She is a former patient of Dr Motha.
