Part II – After a lead chapter on the merits of technical analysis, the author offers detailed research into trend analysis, showing how to identify if a market is trending or not and how to measure it.� Further research involves the concept of Drawdown, which the author adamantly states is a better measure of investor risk than the oft used and terribly wrong use of volatility as determined by standard deviation.

As a 23 year veteran of the financial markets I have to say that this book is a masterpiece as it is an in depth view of the author’s vast knowledge and experience. As a developer/sub-advisor of technically based investment portfolio solutions my expectations of the breadth and depth of this book were exceedingly high…. yet this book delivered by exceeding my expectations. Whether you are new to the world of stock market analysis/ portfolio management or a seasoned pro this book will not disappoint as the author leaves no stone unturned and takes you farther and deeper and includes: a critical look at modern finance, uses and limitations of popular technical indicators for measuring trends, as well as methods and rules for security ranking and selection.

You will likely find yourself revisiting certain sections on market trend analysis, popular indicators and the entire chapters of rules based money management. While the charts and labels are small I suspect this is deliberate as the author places a higher value on explanation, applications and limitations of various indicators so as to increase understanding behind indicators… as opposed to traditional technical analysis which tends to place greater importance on visual chart interpretation of indicators. In that light you will notice that a majority of charts include a simple line chart of the S&P 500 complemented by a single line indicator and in that regard the charts are clean and simple.

After reading this book you are sure to gain a deeper understanding of how financial markets really work, shortcomings of modern finance, destructive forces of human nature in the investment process, as well as uses and limitations of technical indicators. At a minimum you will likely gain a greater appreciation for utilizing weight of the evidence trend following investment strategies. The true value of this book far exceeds the cost of purchase. I buy every book on trend following that I can find. I'm CEO of MarketCycle Wealth Management, a trend following investment advisory. Most trend following books are a total waste of time. The author put a lot of work into this particular book, simplifying difficult material and backing up what he says. I doubt that anyone will be able to become a trend following investor after reading this, but they may better understand technical analysis as it applies to trend following. So, this book will be worth reading for the average investor/trader, which is the majority of readers, but it may not help at the advanced levels of professional trend followers.

Wow! Far exceeded my already high expectations...

I have been studying trend following and technical analysis for over 30 years so when Greg approached me to proof the technical sections of this book I had high expectations to say the least. Among the hundreds of books I have read on the topic, Greg has really broken the mold with this one. Investing with the Trend is a rare gem in that it not only provides great information but also provokes new thought every time you read it...add it to your library because this is not a one time read.

What this book will deliver:
- highly complex concepts simplified for the average reader
- entertaining stories and examples that help you internalize the information
- extensive research that backs up the claims
- a fresh perspective on modern finance
- an honest and scientific look at the benefits and limitations of trend following
- 40 years of practical (and often hard earned) lessons from a successful trend investor
- a stepping stone to explore further, Greg points out some excellent resources

What this book is not:
- this book will not make you a trend following expert overnight

Bottom line - if you are serious about trend following, it would be a mistake not to read this book. These days, not many things out there will give you as much value for the $80 list price.

How to save a marriage? Read Here!

This book is about the true story of good verses evil, light verses darkness. It is the story of two people who made a complete mess of their marriage. Tried to fix it and failed and then tried the only way it could possibly be saved. No amount of therapy or friends advice would have made something good of what they had ruined. So many marriages and relationships ( between friends and family) are on the rocks today. So many divorces. And people just remarry and divorce again! This is because they don't know what this couple finally realized. Everyone should read this book! Whether you are married or not. It will save you a ton of sorrow if you take its advice and follow it. This family was oppressed by demons and people who wanted to destroy their relationship and their lives. The couple made wrong choices. Then they tried to leave behind their occult hobbies and interests. But it didn't want to be left behind! The demons hung onto them tightly, and tried to infiltrate even their sleep and inner thoughts while they hammered at them physically. They stumbled and fell, got back up and stumbled and fell again. In the book, they did not keep their pride intact but laid out all their behaviors and failings for the reader. Because of that very honest human viewpoint and lack of privacy, they have given us a front row seat to the turmoil in this marriage while it was being ravaged by demonic entities, witches and the couple's own titillation with the occult and the very real experiences of terror that it brings, until finding their footing in the only way they could have survived. Throughout all the stumbling and falling the devil was hard at work doing what he does: stealing, killing, and destroying. They had experiences that would make you want to sleep with the lights on for the rest of your days. In the end, they triumph and we celebrate the joy that comes from true freedom from the bondage of darkness. Thru this victory they became as a couple more than the sum of their parts, experienced total forgiveness and found a new reason to live.
This book should be read by everyone because it has the information necessary to heal any broken relationship, any broken heart and restore the reader to wholeness if the advice is taken and followed.

God is All-Powerful!

An amazing testimony of God's faithfulness and grace! God takes the Marraige Covenant quite seriously--and this true account shows God's amazing redemptive work and deliverance over evil in the lives and marraige of Paul & Linda. It is co-written by husband & wife, each telling about the real experiences they each battled.
Paul begins by telling about his attraction to, and his involvment with, different occultic practices to gain power and control in his life. In being blinded from the truth and in the control of satan, Paul, while out on a business trip was led into an affair with a woman who was involved in witchcraft. In this rebellion and sin against God the enemy gained a major foothold, trapping Paul and Linda both in a power struggle against evil. His marraige and family both were taken through a confrontation with evil, encountering and combatting dark forces in their very own homes. In the book, he and Linda also write about spiritual warfare and give teaching about the marraige covenant and how it is seen in the eyes of God. All victory comes from prayer, the blood of Jesus Christ, and in standing on God's Word which IS TRUTH. Two negatives: #1-there are some minor grammatical errors which can easily be fixed. #2- I would have picked a more serious book cover. But like they say, "You can't judge a book by it's cover" and this is certainly true for this one! I still give it 5 stars.

This book was amazing! I've been listening to the authors on the KAPOW Radio Network podcast, which is where I heard them talk about their book, so I decided to check it out. I'm so glad I got this book! I've had a few experiences myself with demons & have a few other spiritual warfare books, but none of them grabbed & held my attention like this one did. Their story is terrifying, which is what makes the book so interesting, but it also gives straight forward, Bible based advice on how to battle with Satan, his demons, etc. I'm going to read this book again, actually!

Intriguing ideas

Interesting ideas. I'm not sure I'm buying it, but love playing 'what if' and I think Michael has at the very least raised some fascinating questions about our collective past. The stone circles in SA are definitely an enigma, and no one else has come close to explaining them. I like his views on our current systems and his ideas for improving our lot. Downfall...some big leaps made on little evidence. He based a lot on Z Sitchin's interpretations of Sumerian texts, and doesn't adequately address the critiques on those translations and the niggling rumours that they are exaggerations, full of mistakes or presented to suit Sitchin's theory. However Michael is very authentic, very passionate on his subject, and I sense a truth behind a lot of what he says even if some of the specifics are a bit stretched. A great read that gets you thinking. I will continue to read his work, and appreciate not only his efforts to uncover truth, but also to expose corruption in our present system and suggestions for alternatives.

I just finished reading “The Lost Book of Enki”, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I credit
the last chapter of Michael Tellinger's book (“Slave Species of the Gods”) as the key
that made it possible for me to comprehend this facinating story.
My skill is not language arts, and I failed in earlier attempts to read “The 12th Planet” or LBOE.
I am amazed that just a few years ago, I could not follow the story in “The 12th Planet” nor could I tolerate the the language in LBOE, and now I am fascinated at the ability of the simple language in LBOE to communicate so efficiently and easily. I consider SSOTG to be a condensation of LBOE. Thank you Michael Tellinger for unlocking this most-important story for me.

Too much rant

Claims his conclusions are absolutely supported by rather feeble evidence. Too much rant, not enough info. Found myself skimming large sections that were repetitive rant. Some interesting info that could indicate the author's theory is right, but not iron clad.

About the Author
Frederick L. Jones is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He received an M.B.A. at the University of Maryland, and a D.B.A. at Boston University. His research interests include information systems, auditing and financial accounting, and he has related publications in the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy and the Journal of Accounting Literature. Dr. Jones is a CPA and has professional experience in internal auditing and public accounting. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of CPAs, Beta Alpha Psi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. Professor Jones lives with his wife and daughter in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, where he enjoys kayaking, hiking and learning to play the piano.

Dasaratha V. Rama is a Professor of Accounting and Information Systems at Florida International University. Prior to this, she was on the faculty of Texas A&M International University, The Univer�sity of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and Bentley College. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Her teaching interests include ac�counting information systems, systems analysis and design, and project management (delete database management). She has published in a wide variety of accounting and information systems journals, including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Account�ing Horizons, Issues in Accounting Education, ACM Transactions on Information Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Communications. Dr. Rama (changed to past tense) has served as the chair of the Teaching & Curriculum (T&C) Section of the American Accounting Association. She has also served as the webmaster of the T&C section and as the chair of the service-learning committee and active learning committee of the T&C section. She was an Engaged Scholar with Campus Compact under a grant funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts. She lives with her husband and two sons in Weston, Florida. When she is not busy with her two boys, she enjoys books and classical music.

Good overview of how systems work

I was looking for a book that described in depth how the various cycles (e.g., Revenue Cycle) worked in conjunction with the various tables. Does an outstanding job with in-depth details where you not only learn the steps, but how the system is updated at each stage. Good material on controls, especially application controls that need to be built into the system. Normally I never look at case studies and assignments, but in this book, they were useful.

Very Basic and Naieve Book

I bought this book hoping to find a good reference in accounting information system with a focus on processes, yet I found a nieve, elementery book that is more of a help to a student just starting to learn information systems. The star rate is only because I have a book which might be helpful to any student having no clue about Information System. The business process approach is a big word to be part of the title as it is far beyond the real process and relating information system as I knew it.

Product was as described. Maybe a little bit better in quality. Shipped as scheduled. No hold ups. Recommend seller. By the way stay away from maluprynce. The person did not even ship the book I ordered. I wish that this seller had the other book I needed for class. But yeah expect the product shipped to your destination on time if ordering from this seller.

About the Author

He has written two books: User Interface Design for Programmers (Apress, 2001) and Joel on Software (Apress, 2004). Joel holds a bachelor's of science degree in computer science from Yale University. Articles by the guy you want to go to lunch with.

This is the first positive review I'm giving while still reading a book. First of all, to fully enjoy the book I feel like I have to read it in tiny tiny chunks to let the content sink in, thus it's taking forever to get through it. The second reason is that it has been so consistent in writing level and quality of content that I am certain it will continue that way until the end.

In a nutshell, this book is a series of blog posts, written and curated by a known software persona. It deals with everything a software developer is likely to encounter during their career: Technical , managerial and business issues. All subjects are treated with a writing style that cuts to the heart of the matter with light humor and strong metaphors.

There are two reasons that this book doesn't deserve the fifth star:
1) Most of the articles were written over 10 years ago.
2) I am not entirely sure whether Joel's ideas seem so compelling because he is right or because he knows how to sound like he's right.

For these reasons I try to force myself to take everything with a grain of salt, a somewhat fun-spoiling effort.

If you've been in the software business for some years, this book will speak to you. Get it, enjoy it, but don't take it too seriously.

A required book in your library

I've enjoyed reading the online version for several years now. Joel has a unique down to earth view on computers, programming and business that makes his blog worth reading. He believes in using the right tool for the job, and not just always using a hammer because you have one handy.

There are a lot of books and web sites on how business, software, computers and programming should be conducted. Most fail to understand the basics of what they are talking about because the writer has a theory that he thinks will solve everything. But the theory takes on a life of its own, and becomes more important than observed reality. Just the trap many political, religious and self-help demagogues fall into. They become pie-in-the-sky dreamers and less attached to normal life.

He seems to have a similar, if slightly younger perspective, on the field as Richard P. Gabriel who wrote his now famous "Worse is Better" essay about 10-15 years ago. Another writer/programmer he reminds me of is Paul Graham.

Joel has not tried to generalize his very specific observations into a unified whole theory of all programming and computer management. But that doesn't prevent you, the home reader, from making those generalizations yourself. You may have to prevent yourself from thinking too much of it, least the Law of Leaky Abstractions take over. Joel gives one a good place to start.

I've used his "Law of Leaky Abstractions" in discussions I had many times.

Also, when I was thinking for a job I used his guide to interviewing when talking to perspective employers. Sure, he wrote it from employers to use, but I was able to easily enough reserve it's principals and applied them to finding out info about the company I was interviewing at. This allowed me find out what the bad interviewers really wanted to know when they didn't know what they wanted. It allowed me to show that I was smart and could get things done to the people who interviewed me. And since I'm employed again it must have worked.

Some wheat, a lot of chaff

I think the essays span a period of several years ending in the early 2000's. Therefore some of them are very dated, like several chapters on how to write highly detailed specs and schedules before starting a project.

Some of the articles on interviewing, incentives, wireframing, and engineering were thought-provoking and still relevant, but the self-aggrandizing and pervasive Microsoft bias wore me out after a while.
