As in the past 19 events, ICANN 2010 provided a distinguished, lively and interdisciplinary discussion forum for researches and scientists from around the globe. ANNs provide an information processing structure inspired by biolo- cal nervous systems and they consist of a large number of highly interconnected processing elements (neurons). Each neuron is a simple processor with a limited computing capacity typically restricted to a rule for combining input signals (utilizing an activation function) in order to calculate the output one. Output signalsmaybesenttootherunitsalongconnectionsknownasweightsthatexcite or inhibit the signal being communicated. "This is the book that will set you straight as to which zombie movies are “factually” spot-on and which ones will get your ass killed if you believe them. Fun fact: zombies generally don’t run, but the freshest of the newly-turned will be much quicker than those already beginning to decompose. It is this kind of myth-building that will be the most interesting to zombie buffs, and which raises the book above a mere novelty and adds a storytelling dimension, like a documentary-style horror film that uses the conventions of nonfiction film to add a layer of realism. Not that the book is a narrative story in any traditional sense, nor is it scary in any way. It’s a tongue-in-cheek, strictly-for-entertainment coffee table book, not meant to be devoured zombie-style, but casually consumed in bite-sized chunks. That said, it’s awfully hard to put down once you’ve started. That it is rich in backstory will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Sean T. Page’s other work. Prior to this manual, he has released two other zombie apocalypse preparedness handbooks, and a number of zombie-themed short stories and novels. This is someone who has spent a lot of time contemplating a ghoul-infested end of times. The Zombie Survival Manual is a bit of a departure for Page, not thematically, of course, but in format. About the Author

Sean T Page is a self-proclaimed zombie survivalist. His degree from the London School of Economics has given him the skills and confidence to advise government and other public bodies on what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. He launched the Ministry of Zombies in 2009 and has published The Official Zombie Handbook and War Against the Walking Dead.

Great book for zombie ;loving kids

Everything about this book appealed to my 11 year son who got it for Christmas.The amount of detailed content, well written and also amusing, the themes and the layout,design and illustrations are excellent.
We live in Austria and my son is growing up in a bi-lingual, German/English, household. Sometimes getting him to read English books is difficult, regardless of theme.This is not a problem with this book, he has his head in it all the time and is now writing and illustrating his own zombie comic strip and stories while continuing to read the book.A recommended buy !.

Yep...ANOTHER Zombie Survival Book...

With all the zombie survival books to choose from, I think it's important to point out what makes this book stand out from the rest.

First of all, Page's Zombie Survival Manual from Hayes is very detailed without being overwhelming. Many other survival books are so difficult to get through, it would be easier to take on an undead horde with your bare hands. This manual is much easier to navigate.

Next, it's entertaining without lowering itself to cheesy humor. It's like a cross between an RPG guide and an Ology book (ex: Dragonology). There's even a test at the end, and a couple of certificates that you can hang up in your doomsday shelter.

Last but not least, Page is not someone jumping on the zombie bandwagon. He is an excellent horror writer, but his specialty is writing survival manuals. He has created a subgenre of his very own. Check out his Alien Invasion Owners' Resistance Manual, if you require more proof. Page ALWAYS does an incredible amount of research for his books.

There is a strong British influence within this book, but it is applicable to most countries. I definitely recommend Page's manual to my fellow zombiephiles, regardless of your Z-plan.

A must have for your zombie nonfiction section.

It isn't often I find myself in agreement with the other reviewers of a book. There is only one thing that could be improved about this book - it could be longer. Not that there is a shortage of information, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page is a fun read and over far too quickly.

The way the book is designed and written is a hoot. From the illustrations, which are far better than any Haynes manual I've ever read, to the little details, the hand print smudges which are in every Haynes manual I've ever read. This book is a testament to what is right and fun about zombie literature.

If you have your zombie books sorted by fiction and nonfiction, as I do, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page demands space on your bookcase.

Questo sistema utilizza nei primi anni di studio, melodie popolari russe (che io ho sostituito con melodie di ogni genere, famose qui in Italia) e utilizza il proprio corpo come uno strumento, per ottenere il “bel suono”. In particolare tutti i movimenti atti al suonare, dovranno essere preceduti da movimenti preparatori (nei cambi di corda, nei cambi d’arco e nei cambi di posizione), ciò per eliminare i movimenti a scatto e rendere il modo di suonare più armonioso. Importante, anche, è saper comandare con il cervello solo i muscoli che in un determinato contesto è necessario utilizzare, rilassando gli altri muscoli, che nello stesso contesto, non servono. In questro metodo, le melodie famose hanno un accompagnamento di 2° violino, o sono arrangiate in forma di duetto ed alcuni studietti possono essere accompagnati al pianoforte con gli accordi scritti. Questo consentirà agli allievi, di fare musica d'insieme, con il maestro o con altri compagni, già dopo poche lezioni. Inoltre, le numerose melodie famose che l'allievo troverà arrangiate in forma di duetto, nell'arco di tutto il metodo, renderanno lo studio più gratificante e piacevole. Wonderful insights into operating system concepts

This book was like candy for my brain. I learned so much while reading it. I gained a profound appreciation for the "Berkeley" approach to computer science. Many of the concepts I learned helped me later ether by providing insights into why things were done a certain way, or giving me patterns to use in my own work.

A beautiful example of things that stayed with me are the "MBUFS". These memory buffers are the cornerstone of protocol design, and they by their nature optimize code by cutting down on the need to copy things around.

Anyone that considers themselves a "Systems Programmer" might want to to take the time to read this book. I think it is life-changing.

Excellent Resource

Excellent. This book is a practical approach to security assessment from planning to the final report. Being in this field for over ten years, this is the first book that truly provides the appropriate level of guidance from not just the security assessment but also from the business standpoint where it looks at involved risks. The appendix is excellent and extremely useful, particularly the questionnaires, which can be modified, based on the type of assessment/client. The book is well structured and very clear, and provides a logical approach to addressing and assessing information security issues. Highly recommended reading.

Checkering Review

I like this book, but it does not do exactly what I had hoped for. The initial part of the book is written by Monty Kennedy in a down home style which is interesting and easy to read. Monty gives great and detailed descriptions on how to make checkering tools, which frankly can now be purchased quite inexpensiverly. Unfortunately he gives very sparse instruction on how to actually use the tools. His checkering instruction is very generalized. I had hoped for more detailed "how to" information for the novice. The rest of the book contains checkering/carving patterns by other artists, along with some tips and a few techniques. I would recommend this book as a general reference and resource for the serious checker or hobbyist, but I would not recommend this book if you are looking for information on the technique itself.

More funny than useful

I found the writing style, with its poor grammar, distracting. On the other hand I liked Monty Kennedy's sense of humor.
My advice for those who are interested in learning how to checker is this:
First, choose hard, fine grain wood to practice on.
Second, ensure the wood is as smooth as possible and all grain is filled with varnish--this makes the checkering process less error prone. Uneven material surface and grain is likely to cause your tools to deviate from the your chosen path.
Third, don't use too fine a checker or the diamonds will break off.
Fourth, purchasing a decent set of tools.
Fifth, scribe your reference lines and trace your outline pattern and go at it.
Sixth, your best bet is to skip the book and practice on smoothly prepared sample material.
Seventh, don't get discouraged if your intitial results are not perfect, keep practicing, making smaller items like pistol or knife grips before tackling bigger projects. Be sure the grips are entirely shaped, smoothed, and finished, with holes drilled before you start checkering.
The book is good for some sample pictures, but these can easily be duplicated by a visit to your local gun shops to study finely checkered stocks. In fact you will get a better idea of what you like by studying many gun stocks.
The book is good for it's dry humor, which is sure to give you a few chuckles. I liked the book but did not feel it was worth the price. Invest your money in a set of tools.

Of no real use to a beginner

Most of the book consists of patterns for various types of checkering. This is very nice and lets the experienced checkerer employ a variety of unusual designs.
However, the book is useless if you don't already know how to checker. The photographs don't show the process in sufficient close detail to enable one to discern what's going on; the pictures of the tools are not detailed enough in general and the text is near-worthless.
The text is some kind of folksy patois that is annoying and non-informative. The authors of the various sections cannot distinguish between irrelevant detail and the main points. Everything is weighted equally and nothing is well-described. I am trying to learn how to checker and after reading this book I still have no idea what the tools look like, which ones do what and how to use them.
If you think you might like to checker or work on gunstocks, don't buy this book.
