About the Author
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Texas at El Paso and at the Harvard University and Wyss Institute.Professor Li is recently rewarded with the UT System STARS Award ($250,000). The STARS (Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention) program provides funding to help purchase state-of-the-art research equipment and make necessary laboratory renovations to encourage faculty members to perform their research.

Yu Zhou, PhD, is a Research Scientist in the Department of Research and Development at ABS Global Inc., USA. Dr Zhou received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010. After graduation, he joined ABS Global, the world-leading genetics provider company as a key researcher and has been working on the development of a high-throughput microfluidic cytometry for biological cell detection and manipulation. He obtained extensive experience in design and fabrication of silicon-based microsystems and disposal plastic microfluidic chips, precision fluid delivery, and microfluidics-based single cell separation and analysis. He is a member of ASME and serves on the advisory editorial board for several technical journals including Microsystem Technologies, and Journal of Mechanical Engineering Research (Canada) since 2011.

A great reference book

I bought one hard copy of this book when it was on sale. Although many cutting-edge research topics in microfluidics and lab on a chip are covered in this book, it is still concise and easy to ready. Another important feature of this book that I like it a lot is that the book structure is well organized. Each chapter is organized from basic principles and fundamentals to advanced topics, and conclusion as well future research trends in the areas.
Although I read a couple of recent books about microfluidics, this one is the book I like the most. It is a great reference book to recommend.

I am relatively new to this field. I found this book is quite informative. It is a very comprehensive book, because it covers not only the fundamentals like device fabrication, but also many interesting applications such as drug discovery, cell biology, diagnosis and so on. Another feature I like it a lot is that it cover many new hot research fields, e.g. stem cell, tissue engineering and controlled drug delivery.
I also found a couple copies of this book in our university library.

About the Author

Randolph A. (Randy) Smith is Professor and Chair of Psychology at Lamar University. Randy completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Houston and PhD at Texas Tech University in experimental psychology (specialties in human learning/memory and statistics). Randy taught at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas for 26 years, chaired Kennesaw State University’s Psychology Department for four years, and became Chair of Lamar University’s Psychology Department in 2007. His professional work centers on the scholarship of teaching and learning. Randy served for 12 years as Editor of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology’s journal Teaching of Psychology and subsequently served as Editor of the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research.

    He has written several book chapters and articles and made numerous presentations dealing with varied aspects of teaching, applying social psychology to teaching, and assessment of teaching. He has worked with high school teachers grading AP exams since the test’s inception and has served as Faculty Advisor for TOPSS (Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools).  He is a member of the American Psychological Association (a Fellow of Divisions 1 and 2—General Psychology and Teaching) and a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. In 2006, Randy received the American Psychological Foundation’s Charles L. Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award and the University System of Georgia Regents’ Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award.

 

Stephen F. Davis is Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Currently he is Visiting Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Texas Wesleyan University and Distinguished Guest Professor at Morningside College. In 2002–2003 he was the Knapp Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences at the University of San Diego. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Southern Methodist University and his PhD in experimental psychology from Texas Christian University. In 2007 he was awarded the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree by Morningside College. His research, which always includes student assistants, has investigated such diverse topics as academic dishonesty, learning versus grade orientation of students, Type A personality, the Impostor Phenomenon, and the behavioral effects of ingesting toxic metals. He is the author of more than 300 journal articles, 31 books, and more than 900 convention presentations.

    Steve’s teaching abilities have drawn acclaim on the national level. He has received the National Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award from the American Psychological Foundation and the Teaching Excellence Award from Division Two (Society for the Teaching of Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. His professional accomplishments also include serving as president of the Southwestern Psychological Association, the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology, and Division Two of the American Psychological Association. He also served as the National President of Psi Chi (The National Honor Society in Psychology). He has been elected as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the American Association of Applied and Preventive Psychology.

Good book for youth and first time trip leaders

This book is made for those with little experience in leading missions trips. It highlights all the important steps you need to walk through prior to, during and after a missions trip. It is not as detailed as I'd prefer for my use but for anyone leading for a first time, I'd recommend it.

Rebecca Drake takes this thrilling plot and goes two steps further. She adds fully drawn characteristics and singing prose -- a combination not often seen in debut fiction. Kudos to Drake for a job well done.

A Great Thriller!

This book will keep you up at night. In this notable debut, Rebecca Drake has made it clear she understands the genre and can write a book worthy of a reader's time and attention. "Don't be afraid" to dig into this book and spend time with a sympathetic heroine and a villain that will forever live in your nightmares.

Amazing first novel...can't wait for her next

This is a thriller that hangs together from the beginning to the end. No loose ends at the end, and unlike many mysteries and thrillers, the ending doesn't disappoint.

Rebecca Drake writes with a style that is complex and mature, yet easy to read. She developes the characters well, and provides some surprises along the way. She manages to touch some of today's hot topics naturally in the development of the plot, but is not preachy or contrived. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
